To go with open source or Proprietary Content Management Systems (CMS) is a million dollar question. There are enthusiasts on each side of it and their arguments seem to be very generic one.

One must consider following points before making a final decision on it.

Open Source CMS:

Its based on open standards.
Mostly open source solutions are capable of meeting the high level requirements.
Nominal or no licensing fee.
customization can be a nightmare.
Study material is not so good.
Performance is generally not optimal.

Proprietary CMS:

Its designed for a specific scenario and hence target audience is limited.
Not as flexible as open source products.
Licensing fee is quite high as compared to open source counter parts.
Customization is pretty easy.
Study material is user friendly.
Tested on multiple platforms and gives a reasonable performance.
